The Winter Games started in 1970 to showcase amateur sport and is today the provinces largest multi sport venue. It provides young athletes with development and competitive opportunities to prepare them for national and international competitions. It also provides the public with a chance to see some of Ontario's best amateur athletes compete at a Provincial level, Over 500 players participated in a series of tryout camps throughout the Province of Ontario during the summer and fall timeframes.

The camps were geared for the identification of the top female hockey players in the 1997-1998 birth years. Only 160 players have advanced to The Winter Games and they will be  placed on  8 teams that will then  be competing in a round robin format until the eventual Provincial Champion is crowned.
